Visit to Chestnut Old Folk' Home
On 13 September 2011, 30 students of SM La Salle Kota Kinabalu visited the Chestnut Old Folk's Home. They were accompanied by 2 teachers, As we arrived there, we were greeted with smiles by them. We saw their home were unorganized. So, we decided to arrange some of their belongings to paint the wall of the Chestnut Old Folk's Home. We discussed the colour of the walls. Finally we chose the green colour for the walls.

We looked around the corners, they were looking boring because there were no plants or trees. So, we planted some green trees. After we finished planting, the old folks said that the trees really brighten up their eyes because it is wonderful to have some beautiful sight to see. They felt very happy to have trees around them now.

The rubbish around the area gave bad odour to the place. We cleaned up everywhere in that area, so the old folks can have a better environment. It really made us glad to see the old folks have more cleaner life now. We enjoyed that evening playing and joking around with the old folks there.

When the night came, we could se that the old folks were hungry. We prepared variety of tasty food in the kitchen using the skill that we learn in school or at home. Later, we sat down in the dining room and said the prayer together. We enjoyed hanging around with them but time to bid goodbye to them. We wish the time would be as slow as snail but it could not.

We really did enjoyed helping the old folks there. The experience had brought us joy to our hearts. The lesson that we learnt from this experience is to help the old folks to have a better life. We hope to visit them more often especially during holidays to improve their life style. We would live to be a great friend to the Chestnut Old Folk's Home as a friend in need is a friend indeed.
